Take This Waltz

We’re in a quality, not quantity, frame of mind this week at blockbuster.co.uk. Submitted for your approval then, two romantic movies that have almost nothing in common, save for the fact that they’re both well worth a watch.

Take This Waltz

Though considerably better known for her acting, Sarah Polley proved her chops as a director with 2006’s Oscar-nominated Away From Her. Seven years on, Take This Waltz confirms her filmmaking talent. A smart, insightful drama with plenty of heart and provocative talking points, it’s seriously sexy too.

Michelle Williams plays Margot, happily married to Lou (Seth Rogen), a good-natured cookbook author. But when Margot meets Daniel (Luke Kirby), a handsome artist who lives across the street, their mutual attraction is undeniable. Warmly human, funny and bittersweet, Take This Waltz deftly avoids romantic clichés and paints an unusually true and unsentimental portrait of adult relationships. Buy or rent it now on Blu-ray and DVD, in store and online from blockbuster.co.uk.

The Wedding Video

A novel addition to the found footage genre, this lively British comedy follows the disarmingly foolish efforts of a best man’s attempt to make the ultimate wedding video. TV’s Rufus Hound steals the show as a doggedly offbeat and wacky wannabe filmmaker whose attempts to capture the pre-wedded bliss of Peep Show’s Robert Webb and the brilliant Lucy Punch lead to much unexpected hilarity. The ideal post-New Year pick-me-up, it’s a welcome gift from Made in Dagenham director Nigel Cole. Buy or rent it now on Blu-ray and DVD, in store and online from blockbuster.co.uk.
