Sam Worthington, George Clooney, Liam Neeson and Clive Owen lead a star-studded week here at blockbuster.co.uk, offering a wealth of movie treasures from criminally-themed thrills and indie-flavoured comedy to creature features of natural, supernatural and extra-terrestrial origins. Besides awesome exclusive Man on a Ledge, which you won’t find anywhere else but right here, we’re also excited about scorching new releases The Descendants and The Grey, and beyond those, all sorts of other amazing goodies. Explore the best of them below…

Man on a Ledge

A high-concept caper movie that asks us to accept certain implausibilities along the way and rewards those who can with giddy, vertiginous, edge-of-the-ledge thrills, this is a grand, glossy, guilty pleasure. The tale of a disgraced ex-cop (Sam Worthington) who busts out of the big house and finds himself perched on the ledge of a ritzy New York hotel, with ghoulish crowds building below, his brother (Jamie Bell) engaged elsewhere and earnest cops (Elizabeth Banks, Ed Norton) trying to talk him down, this is at once utterly ridiculous and absolutely brilliant. Delivering action, drama, laughs and heart-pounding, breath-holding, nail-decimating tension, Man on a Ledge is packed with twists, turns and all sorts of other wonderful stuff. Rent it now non Blu-ray and DVD, in store and online, exclusively from blockbuster.co.uk.

The Descendants

From Sideways director Alexander Payne comes an offbeat comedy drama which is just so darn likeable, watching it feels much the same as hanging out with a good, old friend. The story of an eccentric and largely absent family man, Matt (George Clooney), who discovers that his wife, currently in a coma after a boating accident, was unfaithful to him, The Descendants focuses on Matt’s efforts to locate and confront the guy who slept with his other half, a quest that, more importantly, sees him reconnecting with his mildly estranged daughters at the time they need him most. Authentic performances, strong characters, well-crafted relationships, snappy, insightful dialogue and an unfussy yet involving plot combine under Payne’s thoughtful leadership to produce a truly joyful experience. Rent the Blu-ray and DVD right now, exclusively from your local Blockbuster store. Online subscribers can print off this voucher and rent it in store.

The Darkest Hour

A moderately budgeted tale of alien invasion in which the offending extra-terrestrials are largely invisible, which only serves to make then scarier, The Darkest Hour stars Emile Hirsch as a resourceful lad who takes violent offence to occupying beasties with a shoot-first-and-shoot-again-later attitude. Particularly notable for being set in Moscow, as it makes a nice change to see any country other than America being invaded, it’s a brisk, exciting adventure with a young, enthusiastic cast. Rent the Blu-ray and DVD right now, exclusively from your local Blockbuster store. Online subscribers can print off this voucher and rent it in store.

The Grey

A savage, intense and frequently thrilling survival thriller from Narc director Joe Carnahan, The Grey sees tough-as-nails beastmaster Liam Neeson leading a ragtag team of plane crash survivors through the harsh Alaskan wilderness. Relentlessly pursued by enormous, ravenous wolves, they divide their time between running, fighting, bitching and bonding. Bleakly atmospheric and almost unbearably tense, The Grey will glue your eyes to the screen and your bottom to the very edge of your sofa. Buy or rent it now on Blu-ray and DVD, in store and online from blockbuster.co.uk.

Intruders

Clive Owen takes the lead in this slick, cerebral chiller, a tale of two children in different countries, each visited at night by a faceless goon who aims to possess them. A taut psychological horror flick that intrigues and terrifies in equal measure, Intruders is well made and played and will keep you guessing till the very end. Rent it now on Blu-ray and DVD, in store and exclusively online from blockbuster.co.uk.
